After more than a decade of exploration in Lobo, MRL Gold-Egerton applied for a permit to commercially mine gold in Lobo, Batangas. Faced with this threat on our environment, let us join hands and let our voices be heard by our government. We hope that the people who are reading this article will become aware and fight against the proposal of the project so that we will protect our tourists spots and the few marine biodiversities that are left in this beautiful world.
First, we are against mining because of its effect on the environment. It will destroy the natural habitat of the many plants and animals living in the area. Mining will affect not just Mt. Lobo and the nearby Verde Island Passage but also other areas in Batangas.
Second, as past experience has shown us, the chemical contamination resulting from mining affects not just the environment but people's livelihood and health as well. For example, water supply will be contaminated by chemical wastes and this will lead to ill health of people especially children and to less fertile lands and seas.
Let's say no to mining in Lobo. Let us protect our environment.
